How much sampling is too much? Well, in the old days (I’m in my mid-50′s) this was called “covering” or “reinterpreting” (since Dan added lyrics to Nitzsche’s score).

Imogen Heap has sampled many sounds, but none of her songs could be said as not being possible without any one of those sounds.

If we are being intellectually honest, I think “Symphonies” should be credited with ASCAP as “music by Jack Nitzsche” and “lyrics by Dan Black”. “Symphonies” simply would not exist without the music for “Starman” having been written.

I love this song, and so does my husband. We definitely don’t agree on all songs – but what a great blend of “up” and ethereal vocals” with more melancholy back-beats. Love it – thanks for the reminder…will have to check out the rest of the album.

I heard this song a week ago and right away i heard the samples from Rihanna and starman. Now truth is I am crazy about the song but a part of me is like ‘well you know it is some processed shit’. Its funny cause I watch this movie 4 years ago and i thought how good it would be if someone did a mix on this song and when my wish comes true its bitter sweet not to mention the fact he ripped off the lyrics too but made a change due to copy right laws which im happy to see some thats orginal and raw. Overall i thank dan black for making my wish come true and its defently one of my fav songs of all time. If this song was a fat juciy steak I feel like I watch the cow get slaughted before me before my ears dig in.
